You used to be able to get JDK DMG's, but which the author decided for some reason to remove them (possibly they were out of date). The original place to get openJDK 7 for Snow Leopard was here: configure & make & make install structure that most programs use. Download it, let it install, and then boom. Once on 10.6.8, you can go to the App Store and search for Sierra. Before that, make sure to backup your HD.
